Human vision has a complex structure and by virtue of its nature sometimes gives a false representation on what we actually see. Have a look and make certain of this by yourself! No side-effects should occur after viewing this section ;)
Colour and contrast illusions
Colour constancy
Carefully have a look at the board. Is everything OK with it?
White cells in a shade and black ones on the light — both are of the same colour!

However our eyes do not notice this. Brain sees black and white cells independently of lightness! If you still don't believe, then you may have to check the colours identity, for example, using Photoshop.
Illusion of twinkling lattice
Try to count a number of white circles.

White circles seem to be blinking/twinkling, doesn't it?
Visual artefacts
Is a pattern like standing out forward?

In fact, none of the squares is distorted on the picture.
Gering's illusion (fan illusion)

Actually the lines are parallel.
Illusion of café "Wall"
Are the lines parallel or horizontal?

Yes, they are parallel!
Poggendorf's illusion

These are lines BC that lie on one line, but not AC as it appears from the first sight
